The International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM) is committed to the promotion of healthy and safe travel. In cooperation with national and international health care providers, academic centers, the travel industry and the media, ISTM advocates and facilitates education, service, and research activities in the field of travel medicine. This includes: preventive and curative medicine within many specialties such as tropical medicine, infectious diseases, high altitude physiology, travel related obstetrics, psychiatry, occupational health, military and migration medicine, and environmental health.
6. Identification of the Society's Two Main Divisions:
clinical division
practice management division
7. Homework for the Group
due: January committee meeting
each acting-director is to come up with and/or critique ISTM's mission statement
8. Darin Cherniwchan will purchase a domain name and start a (password protected - for now; pre-release) web-site for the Society
this will be up and running by January 3, 2002
Additional Notes:
From Darin Cherniwchan: Darin Cherniwchan prefers the name BCTMS because he finds is easier to pronounce, excludes the need to have additional words such as "of/for/the" if the name was BCSTM and is less likely to be viewed and a division of ISTM (BCSTM) - PLEASE VOTE ON THE SOCIETY NAME VIA E-MAIL TO DARIN CHERNIWCHAN RE: BCTMS or BCSTM. Then I will purchase the domain name accordingly and get the web site started. Deadline for submission Friday December 21, 2001 12 noon.
From Joan Rousseau: * I spoke with Suni today to share the highlights of our meeting and request her presence at our next planner. She cannot make Jan 3rd as she returns from Xmas vacation on the 7th. She suggested either Jan 8, 9, 14 or 15th and prefers earlier evening if possible. Given that it is important to have balanced representation from public health, I suggest we look to find a common date (from the above) to accommodate her presence at this agenda setting meeting. From Darin Cherniwchan: Committee members please email Darin Cherniwchan which dates you can make and which dates you cannot make. Deadline for submission Monday December 24, 2001 12 noon.
